Majority Rules

Individuality

Meet Maximillian,
Walking naked through the park
celebrating the beauty of the human body
displaying God’s own handiwork
every bit as perfect, every bit as wondrous
as the trees, flowers and little creatures
that surround him as he strolls;
but not hearing “Hallelujahs”
or praises to the Lord
from passers by, just garnering gasps,
accusations and expletives
and in the end “God’s glory”
is busted, jailed and subjected
to psychiatric evaluation.

We must follow the herd
or be rejected, perhaps arrested
Individuality is a dirty word

They fell in love ten years ago
during those years
through sickness and in health
through hard times and good
the love and devotion,
understanding and compassion
grew until there exists between them
a bond as strong as any married couple.
A marriage, however,
planned but put on hold,
will likely never take place.
Peter and Gary are two
who do not qualify.

or be rejected, perhaps arrested
